We looked holistically at how to provide added amenity for a family with teenage boys. In the end it was decided that only minor alterations and additions would be made to the existing substantial two-storey heritage house. Then a new studio fronting the rear laneway was added, forming a courtyard between the two buildings. The studio befits the context and defers to the existing home whilst being decidedly contemporary.
